The minimum requirements for a master’s degree
are 48 graduate credits, including 36 credits of required
didactic course work, 100 hours of practicum, 600 hours
of internship, six credits of electives and a comprehensive
examination.
For degree requirements, a sample of a full-time program
of study, examination requirements for graduation and
time limits for the completion of the degree, visit
the online
university bulletin.
In collaboration with your faculty advisor, you may
wish to design your program of study around a specific
area of interest.
Specialty tracks include:
- Certificate in Aging Studies
- Deaf-Blindness
- Physical Disabilities
- Professional Counseling
Careful planning will typically allow you to meet
the educational requirements for several additional
certifications
beyond the CRC. Your specialization may be as in-depth
as your planning allows and may include:
- customization of assignments in required courses
such as RHAB 633, RHAB 640, RHAB 654 and RHAB 691.
These courses often involve assignments that require
the student to specify a population of interest,
which
the student is free to select.
- required courses specific to your population of
interest.
- careful selection of your six credits of elective
course work.
- careful selection of your 600-hour internship site
and supervisor.
- additional elective course work beyond the required
48 credits.
We realize that experience in the field is one of
the most important aspects of becoming a counselor.
According
to CORE standards and our own requirement, students
must have supervised rehabilitation counseling fieldwork
and internship
experiences.
All students are required to complete the Certified
Rehabilitation Counselor examination.
