Allen N. Lewis, Ph.D.
Dr. Allen Lewis is chair and associate professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling. He was formerly a senior research associate and the director of the Division of Research Informatics of the VCU Survey and Evaluation Research Laboratory where he specialized in program evaluation. Dr. Lewis has had a longstanding commitment to working in the public arena. Before joining the teaching faculty at VCU, he was director of the Virginia Cancer Registry. Prior to taking that post, he worked for well over a decade in the Virginia public mental health system in a variety of positions such as manager of community evaluation services and executive assistant to the commissioner of the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services. He has experience as a mental health program developer and consultant, a mental health and substance abuse services clinician, administrator and services researcher, along with specialized training in providing leadership of public services. Dr. Lewis has three main areas of research interest: (1) the intersection of culture and disability, (2) the measurement of rehabilitation outcomes, and (3) leadership in rehabilitation.
